1958 Harley-Davidson FLH Police Custom Chopper

 

Hello, I am selling My 1958 FLH Panhead to a lucky bidder. The engine is fresh, with a new S&S complete block. The engine is 84 cubic inches, and it has lots of power. The original FLH had a top speed of just over 80 mph, but this machine can easily cruse at 110 mph. I don’t know what the top speed is, but it’s better than 110. This bike has a Jockey Shifter and a suicide clutch. It has new brake pads, good tires, and a sporty gas tank. I will admit that the gas tank does not hold a sufficient amount of gas, about 125 miles and it’s on the side of the road! There is probably less than a thousand miles on this motor. The seat is uncomfortable as all hell after a hour,and if you are 270lbs and 48 years old. This is a great old bike that you can ride for years and years, and it sounds like no other bike on the road. It draws a crowd everywhere I go on it, and everyone seems to know it’s a Panhead, even if they don’t know bikes.

Cranking a Panhead is an art, there is a specific sequence you must use to get her started, when she is cold. If you know the sequence she will fire right up everytime. If you don’t know the sequence, it will kick you harder than you kick it! 58′ Pans did not have electric start!

Why am I selling My Pan?

Because I am ready for some comfort on the road! I am not nearly as tough as I used to think I was. It’s time for me to get on a smooth riding, quite running, machine that I can take my wife around on. Her butt is way to big for a pillion pad. I will not give this bike away! There is a reserve!

This is an old School 60’s era style Bobber/Chopper. Not a Wal-Mart chopper or one built by fake Bikers like OCC. This is the real deal. 1957 straight leg frame with a 020. over 1961 Panhead engine. 1957 4 speed trans. Andrews B grind cam. New S&S Carb, Brand new front and rear tires. Kick start only. Flanders risers with drag bars. Nice 3″ over springer and real 60’s chopper front drum brake front wheel. Upgraded electrical to 12 volt. Easy 4 wire. Points & plugs, no electronics to break down. Custom hand made real leather tooled one of a kind seat/pad and tool pouch. This old Pan runs beautifull, needs nothing, just a rider. Best thing of all, you can do anything you want with is bike. Change it around, personalize it. Parts are easy to find. This is what the real Bikers rode in the 60’s. You will definately stand out in a crowd with this ride. I took it to the Weirs in June. Had a great time people loved it.

Or a 1997-’98 stock Heritage Softail Springer loaded with all the bags, fringe etc.
This Pan is an every day rider not a show bike. Shows some road wear. Like I said, it’s a real Panhead Bobber built & ridden by real Bikers. All units sold as is unless you purchase an extended warranty. Units must be paid for with cash, cashiers check (verifiable during banking hours). Also, deposits can be made via paypal or credit card over the phone. You cannot pay the purchase price of a vehicle with paypal, it’s too expensive and you can change your mind 3 days later and not pay me after you took merchandise.

Residents of the following states have to pay their states sales tax here at my shop, everyone else doesn’t pay tax here or any other fees such as title, doc, etc. The reciprocal states that pay tax here are: Arizona 6.25%, florida 6%, Hawaii 4%, Indiana 6%, Massachusetts 5%, Michigan 6%, south Carolina 5% max $300, Vermont 6%.

All ATV sales have to pay Illinois sales tax of 6.25% no matter where you live. All Illinois residents have to pay 6.25% sales tax on everything we sell plus applicable license and title fees.

Our hours of operation are 8:30 to 5 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday , Friday. Closed Thursdays and Sundays to go riding. Saturday from 8:30 to noon. Please arrange to pick up units during these hours.

Cool vintage bobber built like my dad did them after the war. He ran a department for the Federal Gov’t called War Assets and his job was to get rid of everything! He was selling 45 cube Harleys for $75 each! I wanted to build one like he and he buddies did when they got home. I looked at some old photos for ideas and this is what I put together.

Admitedly its not done, just ran out of time as work is very busy now. I do have nearly all parts needed to finish it and they are included. The engine and trans were rebuilt at a local shop that specializes in Panheads/Knuckleheads and they have a good reputation. The title is a real one matching the case. Also the belly #’s match. I found no broken fins on the heads or cylinders. If you look really close you can see there may be a repair at front engine mount boss. Honestly I dont have another one to compare it to and since this is my first build I’m hardly and expert. I’m learning as I go!

I’ve sold many things on Ebay with good feedback. I always recomend the a person come inspect a vehicle before buying but sometimes its difficult.  Call to let me know when you can check it out. I can also take more photos of specific areas of your choosing.

I don’t have wiring or front brake caliper. I was going to use a vintage Hurst Airheart part like the old racing karts. I removed the hinged part of the fender, its included.

Some new S&S parts include air cleaner(has a scratch) super carb, intake, cam cover.

Other new parts from Colony and Vtwin. I also bought some parkerized hardware for fender, kickstand, floorboards

The seat is very nice used, almost new. Tires and wheels are new. Also include and extra rear tire plus a front tire/ wheel/rotor assy.

There is NO speedo, wasn’t going to use one but had to list a mileage # to get auction to run.

Vehicle is sold AS IS (incomplete mock up) with a clear Michigan title. Buyer assumes ALL responsibility for making it road ready and safe.

Up for sale is my dearly loved 1961 Duoglide. I have owned this bike for over 20 years and have ridden it from coast to coast, Grand Canyon to Jackson Hole and was my main mode of transportation
in NYC and has NEVER let me down. She is a first kick starter and runs
like a raped ape. It is about 90% original with only a few chrome
aftermarket accessories. Unfortunately due to having 3 kids and 2 houses
she has been sitting around the last few years and has acquired some
chrome pitting/ surface rust and a scratch or two as
shown in the pictures. I had the engine rebuilt in 1991 by famed
builder Andrew Rosa on Long Island NY. It has an Andrews A grind cam, unleaded conversion, solid lifters, S&S Super B, auto advance distributor,12 volt upgrade with a completely redone wiring harness and new swing arm bushing/rear wheel and sprocket assembly ( original rivets sheared off ).

While
she is cosmetically not in the showroom condition she was in a few
years ago, she can easily be brought back to that with very little
effort or just ride the hell out of her as is!

Also included is the original buddy seat, tool box and solo seat.

List of aftermarket parts: handlebars, mirrors, footboards, primary cover, rear wheel and Corbin leather solo seat.

Here is a real nice California style
mild custom 1951 Harley 74″ Panhead

Assembled 20 years ago by
our master H-D motorman for his wife. Less than 8,000 miles since built.
Assembled from mostly original Harley factory components. Only
aftermarket parts are the seat, stoplight switch, coil, front
fender, rear 4″ wide rim, headlight, fishtail, timer,
handlebars and controls.

Original solid lifter FL 74″ Pan motor is .030 bore with mild Andrews cam and
pushrods.

Sheet metal in gray primer with clear coat on tanks.

Frame stock, but sans Sidecar Loops.

Easy kick start and purrs like a kitten. Registered as a
1951 Harley!
